The 24th and final beer of the Costco Kalea 2023 Beer Advent Calendar is Teisnacher 1543 Festmärzen that is 5.4 % ABV. The beer is made by Ettl Bräu in Teisnach, Germany. Teisnach is about 110 miles northeast of Munich and about 20 miles from the Czechia border. The Teisnacher 1543 Festmärzen is returning to the Advent Calendar for the third consecutive year, having made its debut on Day 9 of the 2021 calendar and on Day 12 of the 2022 calendar. Day 24 of the 2023 Costco Beer Advent Calendar – Teisnacher 1543
I find the beer to be a little above average. I suppose that aligns with my experience this year. With the excitement and anticipation I had when I first posted about this year’s calendar back in May – excitement that increased into September when I purchased the calendar up until it became apparent that I was not going to get the new beers that were shown in the early and recent promotional photos by Kalea. That excitement has turned to disappointment overall. While I appreciate once again having a chance to drink beers that I can’t otherwise purchase in the U.S., it was discouraging to look forward to trying these new beers and then not getting them. While I understand the reasons for this that have been discussed on the Facebook Costco calendar group page, I am now wary going forward and will not be trusting the contents of the package next year – even if the calendar packaging includes a photo of the included beers.
I’m not taking another chance that I won’t get what I’m supposed to get.
Looking back in hindsight, I perhaps should have taken my wife’s suggestion to pull all the beers from the calendar to see what i was missing, but I can only think that the sooner I would have done that, the more intense my disappointment would have been.
In any case, see you next year. Maybe.
